UTOPIA

Hi. Today I am in a bizarre mood. Bizarre because I can not put into words what I am feeling. So rather than sharing my mood , Ill tell you what I am thinking about.
I was thinking about life. No, wait i am not giving sermons , I am talking about our lives. Lets talk about it.
Your boss took credit of the successful project you had been working day and night for? Your friend got the coolest X Box game you wanted to buy( so so badly)? Your crush finds your best friend hotter? Your husband appreciates your neighbours cooking more than yours?
Well if you have answered no to these- you gotta be kidding me.!
Today we aren't happy or satisfied with our lives. "Life sucks" is a phrase on everyone's lips these days. Our life doesn't suck, our lifestyle does.
We are always busy doing things that are either materialistic or senseless like downloading songs, surfing the net, chatting with unknown people, working , and if not these- cursing our lives.
Instead of these, think of some moments. When you weren't prepared for an exam and it gets postponed. When you wanted to kick someone hard and your friend does that. Your first kiss , Your moms hug, Your dads pat on your shoulder when you made him proud. When you were tired of searching a song on your playlist and you hear it playing on the radio in the next room. When you were eagerly waiting for someone to text and his/her name flashes on your mobile screen. When you click on snooze and sleep for extra ten minutes. Watching your favourite movie cuddled in a cozy quilt sipping coffee with your loved one. Returning  home from an excruciatingly hectic day and find your spouse waiting for you at the doorstep, and your baby rushes towards you to get a hug. When you enter the class and look around to see your crush and then you smile finding him/her sitting in the corner with his/her friends. Twenty seven calls and thirty two messages on your Bday at 12 A.M .
Happiness lies in such moments , not in buying a new car or cruising around the world. Happiness lies in buying your friends favourite flavour of ice cream and teasing him by licking it , refusing to share. It lies in walking in rain barefooted with your hands interlaced with your beloved. It lies in the warmth of your moms hug that assures you that there's someone you can always return  to. It lies in the pillow fights with your sibling.
So, Stop doing things that don't matter. Switch off your laptops. Go give your parents a hug, Irritate the shit out of your friends or play with your dog.
Utopia lies in these moments.
Make each day, each moment count.

DO ONLY DEVILS WEAR PRADAS? ?

Yesterday as i was enjoying my evening with a couple of friends i saw an auto-rickshaw driver wearing an Ed Hardy shirt. While i was admiring the imitation gaping and thinking how much it looked like an original , My friend commented- “These cheap imitations disgust me, Now i think twice before buying an Ed Hardy or a reebok. What if me and my driver wear  the same tee.!?” All of us laughed along with her.
Later at night lying on my bed, i found myself contemplating her comment. What is this Branding all about? Paying thousands of bucks for a Dior handbag or another pair of jimmy choos-is it a luxurious habit or another attempt to satisfy human ego? Is it out of inferiority complex that we consider adidas superior to lakhani? If not then why do I find people, including myself, spending thousands for a branded shoe when the same can be bought for few hundreds manufactured by a local company. Why is it that Loreal has more sale in India then our own veeko bajradanti? If  Nina Ricci smells exquisite does zatak smell any bad?
People say its the quality of these brands that justifies their cost. As a matter-of-fact could a denim fabric we wear be as costly as 3000/sq. metre? The stitching cost may be around some 500 which is an over estimation already. In total how can a jeans be as costly as 10 thousand? Its that label for which we pay. The crocodile logo of lacoste costs more than the product itself. If one’s purse has a CDR sign or a school bag with a puma on it-OMG The person has class.! If that was the case then  the second richest of the world warren buffet apparently is class-less.
We are trapped  in a rat race. We meet people interact with them , notice the labels they wear and out of the normal human tendency to outshine others we try making ourselves superior-how?- better labels.! once we find ourselves donning the costliest stuff amongst our friend group, life acquaints us with someone wearing costlier brands, hence repeating the rat race. The only way to get out of this tiring rat race is to ask yourself what are we paying for? or better whom are we paying for?
Inundated with such variable thoughts I found myself laughing. Are we not marketing their product wearing their logos? Yes, perhaps  we are actually helping them to market their company or their name. Instead of  we paying for their brand they should pay us for donning a piece of clothing or accessory with their logos, helping their promotion.
Its time we realise the value of money and put it to something more worthwhile.

A TRULY DOMINATED NATION - INDIA

Before i commence my article , i want my readers to read something. It is a case study and proposal given by Lord Macaulay who came to India to find loop holes in our unity and further report back to his government guiding them how to take their first step to conquer the then golden bird-India.

Incensed? Shocked? Intrigued? When i read it for the first time, I wasn't intrigued or shocked. I got provoked, provoked to think that we are not really independent yet. The first thought that came to my mind was Gandhi's mantra "SWADESHI". The man sacrificed his entire life trying to inculcate a sense of pride for our own Swadeshi goods, our culture and our heritage. Unfortunately, his sacrifice went in vain.
The Britishers succeeded. They just shifted their throne back to their kingdom, but they still rule us. They succeeded in subjugating us. No, they did not coerce us to buy their products or to admire them, they simply made us consider ourselves, our culture and our goods inferior. By doing this they won our lifelong submissiveness to their culture.
We complaint of racism at one hand and apply fair and lovely with another. We consider Loreal better than Godrej, Colgate better than Veeko-bajradanti and Denim better than Khaki. We tell our children to read Harry Potter but not Panchtantra or Vedas. These Vedas are more beneficial , its these Vedas that taught the world to do Suryanamaskar , now after hundreds of years we understand the importance of vitamin D.We may not be cleaning their toilets any more but we are still working as slaves in Call Centers and MNC's for them.
English is the official language. In schools children are told to communicate in it, In offices presentations are given in it. It has seeped down and strengthened its roots so much so that people now refer to dictionaries to translate the word "translator" in Hindi. You don't know either? Well its "अनुवादक" . Let me ask something- alphabets in English are 26 , how many are they in Hindi? Do you even remember क ख ग घ ?
We know whats opera or whats F-sharp but we don't know, rather don't want to know, what are Ragas. We are blithely unaware of what are we doing to our own country, ourselves and our coming generations.
Wake up from your slumber before its too late. Our turmeric and Bhang have already being patented by the west and now the debate is on for "YOGA". Wake up now lest you would be asked to pay import duty for "your own" national goods.     No matter how high a tree grows or how many fruits are on it, once its cut from its roots- It DIES.
So as Lord Macaulay wanted -INDIA IS A TRULY DOMINATED NATION

COME FALL IN LOVE

I knew you were going to read this. No matter what else you read in this blog this heading is bound to attract readership. Don't worry there is nothing wrong with your cerebrum , its actually those hormones that stimulate conjugal and filial love.
Out of all the emotions namely fear, pain, envy ,dissatisfaction ;love is the most dreadful and lethal. It gives you satisfaction but with dire results.A doctor finds it extremely difficult to operate his daughter. A lawyer fears failure while defending his son. A teacher gets insecure at his or her own off springs poor results. Love is an extreme emotion that runs out practicality. Its not always good to wear your heart on your sleeves.
Talking of conjugal expect, i have often found people saying that love in India is more than in west. When asked why , they say cause our marriages last more. They are blithely unaware of the financial dependence women have on their husbands in India. Don't snap your eyebrows . The evidence is that the present divorce rates are double than they were a few decades ago. Financial independence has lead to a sense of equality and further ego clashes, This has been the  most conducive factor by the analyst. Its not love.
We love our pets and unaware of how selfish our love is we chain our dogs, confine our fishes in small aquariums, cage our birds and devoid them of their freedom. We say that we love charity and helping the poor and desolate. Its nothing but a practice to atone for our sins. Its selfish.
I am not being cynical, i am just highlighting the other side of the golden coin of love which we think doesn't even exists. I know its debatable and many of you wouldn't even agree. Bar your thoughts for a moment and retrospect your life . Doesn't jack die in the end? Doesn't Dev d ruin his life? Wasn't cutie pie cuddled to death?
The main objective of this article is to bring to your notice that in life there are times when you need to be ruthless ,and its important to use your brains and not your heart.
The saying itself conveys - people FALL in love.

MONSOONS

The first drop of rain
on my rooms window pane
i sit beside the window
helping the worries let go
gaping at the children who play
enjoying the rain, they dance with mirth and gay
the paper boats sail on the water
the birds chirp and women chatter
honking cars stuck in flooded puddle
the broken roads , another hurdle
the water condensed
the fishermen incensed
the rice grow making the farmers glow
the monsoon songs on the radio
the pearl drops on the meadow
the rainbows and the sunshine
the clings of the wind on my windshime
the rainy season called monsoon
enjoying every bit of it, sitting cozily in my room

MOTHERHOOD

Perched on the branch of a mango tree
her twinkling eyes and her cute glee
she waves at me, smiles 'hey mommy'
gulps her milk and starts retching
the mother heart i bear, that loves and care
hits my ribs and jumps pulsating
she laughs merrily, my wicked love
as white as snow, as pure as dove
still fresh in my mind
her childhood, with my love entwined
the cute angel soaked with blood
comes to life like a blooming bud
her cherubic face
my little damsel smiles with grace
lifts her hand touches my nape
her twinkling eyes blink and gape
i hold her close, sing her lullaby
protected she yawns and doze
i wonder how time flies
my young lady nudges me and pries
' what are you thinking?' she asks
chocked with emotion i manage to say
'its time for school, the sun is dawning'
and my naughty love starts yawning
